Radio-Frequency Skin Tightening
Radio Frequency skin tightening is not the same as skin tightening in which a Botox (botulinum toxin) injection is used. It is a treatment that is commonly used to treat lax skin in both men and women. This treatment has been known to be effective in firming up the skin and improving skin tone and texture.
Radio frequency is the gold standard for skin tightening, which uses heat generated from radio waves to stimulate collagen production and body contouring. With a non-invasive approach, radio frequency targets the deeper layer of fat to shape and tighten the skin without surgery. Radio frequency (RF) works by using radio waves to generate heat. The heat causes the body’s collagen and elastin fibers to contract, which promotes skin tightening and contouring. This process also encourages new collagen production to help reduce lines and wrinkles over time.

Not to be confused with the ‘high frequency wand’ used for facials
High frequency wands used for facials operate at a lower frequency (60-200 kHz) and are vastly inferior in every way to radio frequency. High frequency wands have very low power (10 Watts), are more superficial, and would be very uncomfortable at radiofrequency intensities. Radiofrequency, on the other hand, acts deeper and is still very comfortable at intensities ranging from 100 to 200 Watts for the face and up to 300 Watts for the body. There is clearly no comparison: In comparison to a good radiofrequency treatment, high-frequency wands are far less effective.
How does radiofrequency-induced heat remove cellulite and tighten skin?
High-power, deep-acting radiofrequency heats the hypodermis and dermis with a lot of heat. This heat does three things: It makes fat cells (adipocytes) release fat (lipolysis) and kills fat cells (programmed fat cell death) (adipocyte apoptosis). The end result of both is less cellulite. It makes collagen cells (called fibroblasts) make more collagen and elastin and makes existing collagen tighten. The result of both is skin that is tighter and more lifted. It strongly stimulates circulation and lymphatic drainage in the area where it is applied. This removes fat molecules from the area without the need for additional lymphatic massage or pressotherapy. All together, these three things get rid of cellulite and tighten the skin. With deep-acting, high-power radiofrequency, there is no need for a separate treatment for cellulite or skin tightening.
How does radio frequency treatment feel?
When radiofrequency treatment is done right (i.e., with high power and deep tissue), you will mostly feel deep heat. If RF is used correctly, with the right protocols, skin products, and equipment, the top layer of your skin (the epidermis) will feel warm and the deeper layers (the hypodermis and dermis) will feel very hot. But you should never feel like you're burning or in pain. Within a few minutes of their first treatment, most people get used to the feeling of deep skin heat and relax, finding the treatment comfortable or even soothing. Most clients can even fall asleep during treatment by the second session. A small percentage of clients (5%) find the treatment uncomfortable but still okay, and a very small percentage (1%) find it painful.
How many deep tissue radiofrequency sessions are needed for good results?
We recommend 6–12 sessions, anywhere from twice a week to once every two weeks is recommended for best results. To change, the body requires frequent and repeated stimulation, as well as time. Even with the best technology available, severe cases may necessitate 12-24 sessions. If more than 24x sessions are required, such as in severe cases of skin laxity or cellulite, surgery for skin tightening should be considered.
Will I see results right away?
Clients often report immediate, noticeable skin contraction after receiving effective, deep-acting, high-power radio frequency.
When will I see the final results?
Experience has shown that the results of any given session show up gradually. It takes about a month for 80 percent of the results of that session to show up, and another 20 percent of improvement happens gradually for about three months after any given session. We've had a lot of clients who finished their 6 or 12 sessions, went on vacation, and then reported that they kept getting better while they were away and even after they got back.
How long do treatments last?
The treatment duration is 20–40 minutes per area.
